LOVECRAFTIAN CLIFFS NOTES FOR ECH-PI-EL'S:

The Shadow out of Time

The rugose cones from planet Yith,
Forbidden records show,
Migrated to our infant earth
Extremely long ago.
Their questing minds explored both near
And far in time and space
In search of knowledge they believed
Important to their race.
They looked for bodies they could use,
And then, with nimble skill,
Switched places with the minds inside
And forced them to their will.
These cosmic-wide librarians --
The ancients termed them such --
Compiled the vital archives that
They seemed to need so much.
Once they had gained the knowledge they
Had journeyed far to learn,
They then reversed the mind swap and
Prepared for their return.
This Great Race had no luggage while
Enroute from place to place,
Nor tickets for their passage as
They steered through time and space.
