The Disciples of Cthulhu

THE DISCIPLES OF CTHULHU

In February 1974, DAW Books published Brian Lumley's novel The Burrowers Beneath. Having had the RGttCM published, and continuing to update its contents for a possible future edition, I started thinking. I know about all of these Cthulhu Mythos stories that are unpublished. DAW Books just published a Cthulhu Mythos novel, so maybe they would be interested in a Cthulhu Mythos anthology.

I wrote to Donald A. Wollheim on February 25, 1974. After several letters (with Don waiting to see how the Lumley book would do), Don finally asked me to submit what I had on July 25, 1974. I sent him the manuscripts for the Lumley, DeBill, and Wade stories. I had also sent him "The Still Ones" by F.C. Adams, "Dead Giveaway" by J. Vernon Shea, and "Dead Thing in a Deserted Theater" by T.C. Rypel, which Don felt were unacceptable for professional publication. That was in November of 1974 and he returned all of the material until I had my requested 90,000 words.

On May 20, 1975, Don requested that I resubmit what I had on hand and on July 11, 1975, DAW Books, Inc., issued me my contract for The Disciples of Cthulhu
