LOVECRAFTIAN CLIFFS NOTES FOR ECH-PI-EL'S:

The Festival

by

Franklyn Searight

'Twas evening when my weary steps
Arrived in Kingsport, where
The snowflakes lightly drifted in
The frosty, chilling air.
Urged by my fam'ly, I resolved
To reach this fearful site
And celebrate festivities
Occurring here tonight.
My strange host, wrapped in hooded cloak,
Trudged forth without a sound,
Conducting me toward a church
Perched high upon a mound.
Within, we joined the Yuletide throng;
Trod stairs descending down;
Then shortly reached an inner world
Beneath the seaport town.
Within this nighted realm we saw
A host of frightful things
That clamored round a pillar as
They flexed membranous wings.
You might think it peculiar that
I fled with frantic rush,
But what I saw that night would turn
Most brains to senseless mush!
