SUMMONING THE DREAM-SENDER

by

Ron Shiflet

In a lonely cabin beside a creek
My kerosene lantern is growing dim.
Barely seeing the words I strive to speak
I read from the old book and wait for him.
I am obsessed with the dream-sending one
And I feel there's a fate darkly waiting.
I utter the words and thus it is done
With great fear and much hesitating.

Reality shifts as the flame burns out,
An eerie chill now pervades the small room.
The Old-One has come, of this there's no doubt
Now I tremble while awaiting my doom.
My heart is frozen in fear that won't thaw,
Gazing into the dream-sender's black maw.
